Minutes of the RSB-NC Board Meeting August 15, 2026

Seeing that there were no comments or corrections, the minutes were approved unanimously.
Treasurer’s report: (Robert):
- Membership renewals: after another appeal 33 people so far have renewed ($1,349). The membership list is here.
- DONE (Robert): Another appeal for membership renewal will go out soon.
- Financial status: We had a problem with our checking account in July when the account was hacked. As a result we have changed passwords and 2-factor authentication. We had to open a new checking account and purchase new checks for $94.90. We need to work with the bank further to clean up the old checking account balance.
Community calendar:
We need someone to add items on an on-going basis (e.g., recent St. John’s gathering, TCC events, EWS events for the general public, regular study groups, etc.)
TO DO: Michael will start posting events. Send all notices to him.
Community events:
- St. John’s gathering: We need photos from the event to post on a special page for this event (for Michael to post).
- TO DO: Annie and others: please send photos St. John’s gathering to Michael to post.
Upcoming Events
- Proposal from Jenny Bingham to have Alan Thewless give a workshop on our relationship to the stars.
- Friday and Saturday, January 8-9. Venue: possibly Eno House, EWS. Possible tie-in to end of Holy Nights as part of the theme.
- Honorarium $300 (negotiable if attendance is small).
- Travel $200.
- Venue $150 (could also be Brown Wing, or elsewhere).
- Refreshments, supplies, publicity $150.
- Possible charges: Lecture & workshop $50; Lecture only $20.
- Ads and flyers to TCC, Weaver Street, etc.
- The Board point person for this, to work with Jenny is Kelly.

- Motion: Viorica moved to sponsor this event with Alan Thewless as noted above. Passed unanimously.
- Celebration for Michaelmas? We need to have someone take the lead in forming the festival event (a presentation, eurythmy, speech, music, etc,).
- EWS Michaelmas is October 8th.
- TCC Michaelmas is scheduled for ??
- Post on RSB-NC list that the Branch is willing to sponsor. Kelly has posted a request from the Board to the Listserv.
- The Board point person for this, to work with the festival leader, is Kelly.
- At the end of our meeting, we included Joanna Carey in the Zoom meeting to discuss with us her ideas about this festival celebration and to encourage her to participate in forming the festival.
Report on the status of Branch activities
- Study groups: Philosophy of Freedom study group; Study at the Christian Community & visits to community members (Judy Frey).
- First Class: will begin in September: Kelly and Elena are Class Holders.
- EWS: Current enrollment: 196 students. Governance work went well over the summer.
- The school year begins with a positive change in governance that includes a change in last year’s model of leadership and decision-making.
- The Board of Trustees has legal and financial accountability for all activities at the school.
- The Pedagogical Chair will support our Section Chairs and Pedagogical Council (the teacher-led pedagogical body that will succeed the College of Teachers) in the shared goal of ensuring that our children have the best possible experience in the classroom and in community life at Emerson Waldorf School.
- The Administrative Chair will support the school’s operational needs and will lead the day-to-day activities that create the solid foundation upon which faculty and staff work to serve their students.
- The Governance Review Committee submitted a report to AWSNA documenting the changes they have both implemented and proposed in alignment with those parts of Principles 5, 6 & 7 where EWS was found to be out of compliance last school year.
- Christian Community: move to Hillsborough, Eno House is complete and regular services have been held since the end of June.
- Other Waldorf initiatives: Raleigh Day School will be opening classes soon.
