Approve minutes of August 19, 2023 meeting:
- Viorica moved to approve. Robert seconded. Approved unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report (Robert): Robert presented the Branch’s Financial Position to date and Income and Expense Year-to-Year Comparison. The Branch has a net surplus of $870 so far this year. Our two CDs (Building Fund and Folsom Fund) have earned about $535 so far this year. We still have funds this year for activities for the Branch.
Festivals and Events:
- Review of Michaelmas – the Binghams hosted a reading of the Green Snake and Beautiful Lily, Christina did Eurythmy and they had a potluck meal.
- All Souls – Joanna just wrote that she will be visiting our community Thursday, November 2 around All Souls and asked if she could participate in our planning. She and Kathleen exchanged a bunch of emails. The Observance will take place at Eve’s. Joanna will ask Suzanne if she’d like to play the lyre. We will have a reading and the usual lighting of the candles, verses, sharings and so on.
- Eurythmy Report from Christina Beck – As was requested at our last meeting, Kathleen contacted Christina Beck to see how she would like to offer Eurythmy this year. They met at Christina’s home and spoke about ideas. She is offering classes for Eurythmy in her home on Tuesdays.
- Christina has offered to contribute to the first Sundays of Advent during which she would like to work with the Foundation Stone Meditation. She will be away for the last two Sundays of Advent, as well as the Holy Nights, unfortunately. She will be in Spring Valley at the large Conference that will be held there to commemorate the Christmas Conference of 1923. Christina is also planning to do a Performance in November, but she would prefer to sponsor it herself, as she is retired now and needs to earn the most money possible (If the Board were to sponsor it we would give her a stipend and pay for the venue, but keep any money that was left over.)
- Christina also asks that we pay her $100. For each of the Advent Sundays. We need to approve this. Christina did mention that she has not had time yet to apply for any grants yet, but she might be able to. We need to wait and see.
- Robert moved: to pay Christina $100.00 for each week (12/3, 12/10) the first two Advent Sundays about the Foundation Stone. Kelly seconded, unanimously approved.
- To Do: Kathleen will call Bride about the second two Advent Sundays, Kathleen (Jenny) will present on the Foundation Stone.
- Advent – Among other things, Advent is supposed to be a preparation for the Holy Nights. Since the main focus of the Holy Nights will be on the Christmas Conference, Christina suggested we work on the Foundation Stone Meditation during Advent.
- To Do: Kathleen will ask Jenny to chair a meeting soon to begin the planning.
- Holy Nights – This year we will be commemorating the anniversary of the Christmas Conference of 1923; no planning has happened yet, but we need to move on it soon.
- To Do: Figure out which and how many Holy Nights we will meet. Kathleen will call a few members to see if they would like to host.
- Eve Olive spoke to Kathleen during their trip to Spring Valley for the “Fire in the Temple” by Glen Williamson drama. She would like to see us advertise on the “Meet-ups” website to try and get young people interested in Anthroposophy. If interested, please contact her. She suggested we suggest the topic of Reincarnation.
- Lynn Jericho asked if we would be interested in her doing a course for the branch. Kathleen suggested she speak at a Branch meeting first, and asked her to submit a proposal with her idea, the time, her fee, etc. She will get back to us.
Discussion:
- Branch Meeting – We had hoped to have a Branch Meeting on October 14; a notice went out asking for volunteers or suggestions of people to do a Biography Workshop for us. No one responded. Kathleen then asked a couple of people but no one was interested. Kathleen had thought of doing it herself, but her life situation became overwhelming and in talking to others it seemed, everyone was feeling overwhelmed and it made her think that even if we planned something, would anyone attend if so many were stressed to the max, so we dropped the idea. Let’s discuss – what do you think the Branch members would like?
- Discuss: Our activities and goals for the Year: Would we like to do a Study together or work on our branch Handbook? Would we like to do an event this year?
- To Do: Next Board Meeting we will bring suggestions about what to study in our Board meetings.
